Illuminated designer light switch with a brass toggle and a front plate in your chosen RAL colour, from the YORK collection by ROHDE+ROHDE. RAL colours for precisely coordinated interior schemes

The RAL colour system provides a particularly practical basis for architectural and interior design planning. Wall finishes, furniture surfaces, doors, windows, kitchens, metal components and many other elements are frequently specified using a particular RAL colour reference.

For YORK, the front plate can therefore be individually produced in virtually any required RAL shade. This allows the light switch to be incorporated precisely into an existing colour scheme or coordinated with other architectural and interior elements from the initial planning stage.

Metallic RAL shades are excluded. Due to their special pigmentation, they cannot be offered for this version.

From understated natural tones and rich colours to classic greys and beiges or bold accent shades, the extensive RAL palette offers a wide range of possibilities for both private interiors and demanding architectural projects.

Brass as a warm contrast to your chosen RAL colour

The solid toggles with a high-quality brass finish create a deliberate contrast with the individually selected front colour. Combined with cooler greys, blues or greens in particular, the warm metal introduces an interesting interplay between colour and material.

With beige, cream, red or earthy shades, the brass can blend more harmoniously into the overall scheme. The character of the switch can therefore change considerably depending on the chosen RAL colour – from crisp and architectural to warm and inviting.

It can also be coordinated with brass taps, lighting, furniture fittings or other metallic details within the room.

RAL colour hand-applied behind the transparent front

The selected colour is not applied to the visible surface of the YORK front plate. Instead, the reverse of the crystal-clear acrylic glass is hand-painted in the chosen RAL shade in the ROHDE+ROHDE studio.

The colour is therefore viewed through the transparent front. This technique gives the selected shade a distinctive visual depth and brilliant glass effect that differs significantly from an ordinary painted plastic surface.

At the same time, the actual paint layer remains protected behind the transparent material and is not exposed to direct contact during everyday use.

Illuminated brass toggle

If desired, the brass toggle can be fitted with a subtle point of light. Depending on how it is wired, the supplied 230 V LED insert can be used as an orientation light, indicator light or permanently illuminated design feature.

The appearance of the illumination changes with the selected RAL colour. Against darker front plates, the point of light stands out particularly clearly, while on lighter shades it blends more subtly into the overall design.

Combined with the brass finish, it creates a small but carefully considered lighting detail that also makes the switch easier to locate in the dark.

If illumination is not required, the 230 V LED insert can simply be omitted during installation.

Crystal-clear surface with excellent durability

For its YORK front plates, ROHDE+ROHDE uses high-quality crystal-clear acrylic glass with effective scratch protection. The material has been developed for everyday use and is eleven times more impact-resistant than conventional glass.

A UV filter integrated into the material also helps to provide long-term protection for the reverse-painted colour finish against changes caused by exposure to light.

YORK therefore combines the premium visual effect of a colour reverse-painted behind a transparent front with the durability required of a light switch designed for everyday use.

An individual RAL colour instead of a standard finish

A front plate specified in a particular RAL colour allows YORK to be integrated with exceptional precision into an existing design scheme. This is particularly useful where other surfaces within the room have already been manufactured or painted to a specific RAL reference.

The light switch can either blend discreetly into the wall surface or be deliberately specified in a second RAL shade to create a contrasting accent.

Installation of YORK toggle light switches

YORK can be used with individual wall boxes as well as in multiple configurations. Several light switches or sockets can be combined beneath a single continuous front plate.

The wall boxes can be arranged horizontally or vertically. Where several boxes are used, the standard 71 mm centre-to-centre spacing must be maintained.

The wall boxes must be at least 45 mm deep. For secure installation, the switch mechanisms are screwed directly into the wall boxes.

Change the colour later – keep the existing switch mechanism

The visible YORK front plate and the installed switch mechanism are separate components. If a room is redesigned or given a different RAL colour at a later date, there is therefore no need to replace the complete light switch.

A new front plate in the required RAL shade can be ordered separately and fitted in place of the existing front. The switch mechanism and electrical installation remain unchanged in the wall.

No electrician is required when replacing the front plate only.
